His Holy Spirit

God has not left us alone to live our Christian life out of our own efforts. We cannot! We have no natural ability to do this. God knows this. So God has given us an astounding gift – His Holy Spirit. He has actually given us His Own Power to will and to live according to His good purpose.

As Jesus prepared the disciples for His departure, He promised He would not leave them alone as orphans.  "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever … you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you." John 14:16,17

The Holy Spirit comes to live in the hearts of all believers through faith in Jesus Christ. You have become the temple of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God.  "… When you believed in Christ, He identified you as His Own by giving you the Holy Spirit, Whom He promised long ago." Ephesians 1:13  Only by His Own Spirit can we know the love God really has for us.

And now that the Holy Spirit is living in you, it will become evident that something entirely different is going on in your life. The Bible says,  "When the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Galatians 5:22,23   As we begin to allow the Holy Spirit of God to lead us, He bears His fruit in us – good fruit that will last.

Although the Holy Spirit comes to live in you only once and will never leave you, the Bible testifies that believers can be continually filled by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the miracle-working power of Jesus, the apostles, and other believers – they were repeatedly filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to will and to do of God's good purpose.


And God is pleased to do this! He says all you have to do is ask.  "And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for … If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" Luke 11:9,13

This is the amazing free gift of God to all who will believe – The Holy Spirit, Comforter, Counselor, leading us into all truth, the living water welling up within you leading to eternal life – the power of God Himself to live the new life that He has called you to as His new creation!
